Concrete Close to Athens, With Room to Spread Out
Arnoldsville is a small, spread-out city in Oglethorpe County, and the people who call concrete contractors here usually have more land than a typical in-town lot. U.S. Route 78 passes just south of the city, leading 10 miles northwest to Athens and 4 miles east to Crawford. The 2020 census counted 431 residents, up 20.7 percent from 2010, across about 1.7 square miles, which works out to roughly 252 people per square mile.
Three names in one history
The community began as Cherokee Corner. In 1894 the name changed to Edwin, after Edwin Shaw, who ran a country store. In 1896 the store was sold to N. D. Arnold, and the town was renamed again. Even so, Arnoldsville did not incorporate until 1969, which makes it one of the younger municipalities in the area. Many homes sit on rural-sized lots that were never laid out in tight blocks.
Low density, long driveways
With so much room per house, driveways here are often long and slabs are often big. We see a lot of requests to replace worn gravel near the house with concrete, to pour a turnaround so a truck can back out safely, and to add pads for RVs, trailers and equipment. A long drive is a large pour, so the base matters even more: we grade out soft spots, compact stone, and set a crown so rain runs off both sides.
Growing again
Arnoldsville's population has grown in every census since 1970, from 181 that year to 431 in 2020. New homes bring new needs: patios, walks to a detached garage, a slab for a workshop. We plan each one to drain away from the house and to tie neatly into any existing concrete.
On the ground at about 797 feet
The city sits at about 797 feet on rolling Piedmont land. Red clay below the topsoil is common in this part of Georgia, and it holds water. A slab poured on bare clay without a base is likely to crack and settle. We build every slab on compacted stone.
Close to Athens
At about 10 miles from Athens, Arnoldsville is near enough that many residents work in the city but want land and quiet at home. That mix often means a project list: a concrete parking area for two or three vehicles, a walk from the driveway to the door, and a patio out back. We can plan and pour them together so grades connect and water drains as one system.

Arnoldsville Questions
Can you pour an RV pad?
Yes. We size the pad for the RV or trailer and make it thick enough for the weight, with a compacted base and reinforcement.
Should I pave all of my long gravel driveway?
Many owners pave only the section near the house, where traffic and runoff are heaviest. We can quote both options.
How do you keep a long driveway from washing out?
We set a crown or cross-slope so water runs off the sides, and we fix low spots and add a culvert or swale where water crosses.
